Is it necessary to remove my Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that erupt in late teens or early twenties. As long as they are healthy and properly aligned, there is no need for them to be removed. But more often than not, misalignment of the wisdom tooth may pose a risk to the adjacent molars, jawbone, nerves. Or their hard-to-reach location and awkward positioning makes brushing and flossing difficult, hence they are more prone to tooth decay and gum disease, affecting the overall oral hygiene. When such situations arise, it may be time to consider removing them.

A dental x-ray (CT scan or OPG) is taken to assess the condition of the wisdom teeth to determine if removal is necessary and how it may be done. The procedure is usually done under anesthesia - local or general anaesthesia or IV sedation, depending on the complexity of the condition and the comfort level of the patient. Oral medications will be prescribed to ensure the post-procedure pain and wound healing is well-managed.
